Questions e-mail me. I am currently responsible for the general sale of a collection of violins assembled by my father and myself over two decades.
The Alfio Barbieri 1953- Certificate, History Papers, to the new owner.
My journey as a professional violinist- freelance, contract concert performances, teaching, chamber music. Studied under the late Misha Boguslavsky. Since the age of 8 I have spent hours practicing with my father's support and encouragement. At twelve, I received my first collection-grade instrument. From this amazing gift, my father continued to provide me with the best violins which started the collection. Eventually, the collection grew with my own effort and investment. My brother is also a violinist.
Fond performance memories...
Smetana, "From My Life" Quartet. An amazing beginning and a beautiful reveal of this great composer's soul.
Shostakovich Quartet. Live radio performance on the premier classical station KUER 90.1. Included personal live interview afterwards.
Mozart, Ave Verum. Many varied live performances. This was the signature piece of the Olympian Quartet which I founded. As tradition, this was the last piece we left with our audience. Such grace of depth and simplicity, an intensity of resolving suspensions.
Schubert, Trio Satz in B flat. Another signature piece when the Olympian Quartet performed as the Trio. Often we performed single movements separately.
Edvard Grieg, Quartet in G minor. One of the most incredible quartets ever written. Live performance as invited by the University of Utah School of music.
THE VIOLIN- The Barbieri is a power machine and is of the very rare types of instruments that carry over the general crowd of excellent violins. Under the right bow pressure and balance, it can rip doors off- and sound great doing it. Capturing, you don't see this kind of instrument in everyday circles- even among professionals.
The condition of the instrument is excellent. Wear has improved its' qualities both aesthetically and tonally. Maintenance has been basic-bushings, polish, strings. The Barbieri is clean inside and out.
Inside, Maker's Label: ALFIO DE BARBIERI- GENOVA FILIUS di PAULO, FECE nell'anno 1953 (53 handwritten). The violin is signed.
Exuding aesthetics and a feel of sure stability in the technical spectrum- the instrument is a fine experience. I recommend that you not only use the violin for performance but also your significant practice demands. My former teacher relentlessly lectured on this, practice, practice, practice he hardlinedly repeated while examining my left hand. No marks-No lesson.
The instrument is categorized on the older side of Modern Italian.
