The back is formed of two pieces of maple,quarter cut,holding a mostly narrow flame running slightly downward from the centre joint.The ribs match the back.The top is of spruce,two pieces,narrow to medium width grain throughout.The scroll is the original,plainer wood than that of the back and sides.The varnish is medium brownish-orange in color over a light gold ground.
