Description for Violin: C.W.F. Otto, Stockholm 1855. Hovinstrumentmakare.:
Born in Jena(Germany) in 1808, died in Stockholm in 1884. Son of Jakob Aug. Otto. Worked for Engleder in Munich and Widhalm jun. in Nuremberg. He came to Stockholm in 1835, but had had time to carry out his arts in Amsterdam. The Hauge, Hamburg, Copenhagen and Gothenburg previously. In the 1860:s he sought after more profitable places for his work and travelled to St. Petersburg, Kningsberg, Danzig and Stettin. Illness however compelled him to return to Stockholm, where he spent the rest of his life. In 1866 Otto became Court Instrument Maker. He was very indistrious and thorough. managed to infuse a kind of Italian tone, not large, but rather penetrating and clearly mellow. This violin had a professional musician own.The labels in his instrument are nearly always in Germany with varying wordings.
