Description: Violin - 1968 Lawrence La May Violin
There are no pictures available for this violin
This violin, a 1968 Lawrence La May, used to be my late grandfather's. Due to heavy family medical expenses, I've fallen on some hard times and need to sell it, so for you, this is a terrific opportunity to get a bargain on a great instrument. It's in good but not mint condition, at least to my non-expert eyes.
The only documentation I have for it is from 1981, when it was appraised and insured for $2,000. Obviously it's appreciated since then, and inflation has done its work too. That said, I'm not looking to make a killing, just to get a reasonable price on it to get myself out of trouble and to place it in a home where it'll be used and properly appreciated instead of just stored for the memories associated with it.
Accounting solely for inflation, without any other appreciation, it would be worth about $4,900 today. I have also found pricing information on other La May instruments, such as 1973 La May violas going for $5,000, and 1974 3/4 La May double bass violins for $8,000 and up.
The violin comes with a case and, as noted, some old appraisals and insurance documentation. Please don't hesitate to contact me with any serious offers or if you have any questions, if you'd like to inspect the instruments and paperwork in person, or if you'd like to contract for a current appraisal at your expense. I look forward to giving this violin a happy new home.
If you go to Craigslist New York City and search for Lawrence La May, you can see a longer ad with pictures of this violin and the other one I'm selling.
