A very fine viola made by Benoit Charon, Saint-Louis (France),graduated from Newark Scool of Violin Making, based on Giacomo Gennaro circa 1650Beautiful instrument visually and tonaly.The back is made from two pieces of very old maple.The front is made of two pieces of very good qualitie spruce.
The scroll is from the same wood as the back.
It is a powerfull instrument with deep resonating and brillant sound whether it is in its lower or top register.Evenly balanced, excellent projection and easy to play.
The golden-brownish red oil varnish is thinnly applied.
This viola is fitted with Otto Tempel pegs and tailpiece (handcraft), and set up with an "C" wolfram spirocor, a "G" and "D" obligato and a "A" larsen.
