This model of rope tension snare drum was used in the French Army from the American Revolution to the end of the Napoleonic era. It is also available in traditional red/white/blue diamond design painted on the hoops.

Conditions such as humidity will slacken the calfskin heads. It is necessary to tighten the calfskin heads to get a crisper sound. As this is the sacrifice you make to get a historically sounding drum!
