Description: Saxophone - 1953 SML "Rev D" Alto - GOLD PLATED!
There are no pictures available for this saxophone
This is a 1953 SML (Strasser-Marigaux-Lemaire) Rev D alto in gold plate. I'd estimate plating to be about 80-plus percent. There is some plating wear in spots on the back of the body tube. No dents, no apparent resolders. Rolled tone holes, articulated G#. Condition is excellent, and was very recently serviced and completely repadded with Mark VI-style domed nylon resonators. Plays with remarkable ease all the way down to low Bb. Palm key register is open and clear. Has a strong, rich, sweet tone throughout, as you'd expect from a good SML. Keywork is very fast and even.
If you are not familiar with these well made and sought-after saxes, you owe it to yourself to do a Google search on SML saxophones to learn the interesting story of these fine, hand crafted French instruments!
Comes with a sturdy older case in fair cosmetic condition.
Selling for $2,500 plus actual shipping. (Saw another '53 Rev D alto in gold plate, in rougher condition than mine, go for $3,050 on eBay several weeks ago!)
