Description for Saxophone - Conn 26M Naked Lady Alto Saxophone (1935):
There are no pictures available for this advertisement
This is a Conn 26M Conqueror model - 1935 Vintage Naked Lady Alto Saxophone. Serial Number M267919A Low.This saxophone has been in our family for over 60 years. It has been stored in its original case and not played for the last 55 years. It appears to be in great condition for its age. Other than the natural patina, the saxophone does not appear to show any dings or dents. I did notice some surface scratches while taking pictures (see last picture on link). It has its original lacquer, and the case is in good condition. The pads are starting to show some age and may need to be replaced.
The defining features of this model are rolled tone holes, underslung socked neck with tuning barrel, very heavy construction and the complicated set screw adjusting mechanisms at every contact point. There are no cork or felt buffers between interacting keys. Cork key feet are replaced with leather discs on which the tiny adjusting mechanisms rest. There are solid sterling silver key touches everywhere there is not a pearl, and of course, there is the fabled Conn Naked Lady nestled in the ornate engraving (top half of her body). The sound is deep & resonant, with a dark lyric quality and yet a pronounced upper register edge.
We took it to a local dealer who told us that he could easily sell it for $3000 - $4000.
