Description for French Horn: Engelbert Schmid Full Double with stopping valve with sterling silver bell:
Engelbert Schmid Full Double French Horn with stopping valve, in unlacquered yellow brass
Serial No. 23004
* This beautiful horn comes with a medium sterling silver bell with beautifully engraved gold brass kranz garland (see photo) and is fitted with a sterling silver leadpipe. There are two water keys fitted. The horn is fitted with a Drk adjustable finger hook.
* Included is the Marcus Bonna case which came with the horn. It has space for a mute and a music stand (not included) and is in black leather (worth more than 250).
* The horn has just been fully serviced and polished.
* The instrument is unlacquered, so if left unpolished will develop that lovely natural protective patina that unlacquered horns acquire.
* There is some pitting in the handguard area (see photos) and some tiny scratches but all dents have been removed.
* The sterling silver hardware and stopping valve add a little weight to offset the somewhat lightweight nature of E.Schmid horns but weight-wise this horn still weighs less than a normal double horn. Engelbert Schmid writes: The sound [of the sterling silver bell] is especially round so that the middle size is sufficient for most horn players. Sounds noble and doesnt get too aggressive or edgy in fortissimo.
* This instrument plays excellently in all registers, has incredible valves and seems to play itself, characteristic of a good E.Schmid horn.
* The horn was bought new in summer 2003 before the move from Tiefenried to Mindelzell. It has been played professionally since new. This horn has served me well for playing high and low horn in a symphony orchestra, for solo and chamber music.
2008 list price of this horn is over 7000 (approx. $13000).
This horn is simultaneously being sold on ebay. Bidding starts at 4900 (approx. $9400) with no reserve or it can be bought now for the price below and I will take it off ebay. Item number 180276188870. More photos available on ebay listing.
The horn can be viewed in South London for the duration of the bidding-please contact me for details.
