Description for French Horn: Conn 8DR CONNstellation Series Double French Horn:
Conn 8DR (Rose Brass) CONNstellation Series Double French Horn with Fixed Bell
I bought it in late 2002, used it regularly until 2004 and haven't touched it much since. It's in excellent condition - very minimal (unnoticeable) dents and scratches. The bell has never been "crunched" in any way. The valves may need to be oiled a bit - I ran out of rotor oil and haven't been able to get any!
One of the smaller pipes is stuck, but you can easily pull that out with some force or get it fixed professionally for a little bit of money (I haven't ever needed to adjust this pipe though, so you could probably even leave it like that). There is also slight rusting on the keys (but doesn't affect playing). There have been no custom alterations made to the keys.
Comes with cleaning snake, Conn 8D Owner's Manual, Schilke 31c2 mouthpiece (used, but disinfected thoroughly). [will also include a bunch of French Horn music books free upon request]
According to MusiciansFriend.com:
"Based on the original CONNstellation Model 8D - the most listened-to horn in the world, developed in the late 1930s. It has long been the horn of choice in LA recording studios.
Its rich, full tone can be controlled even at dynamic extremes making it a favorite with leading orchestral horn players as well. Key of F/Bb, .468" bore, 12-1/4" large-throat rose brass bell, all nickel, tapered rotors and bearings, fully mechanical change valve, adjustable levers, and clear lacquer finish."
I would be more than willing to meet up at a public location in Orange County to let you inspect the instrument before you agree to purchase. I will also gladly send more pictures upon request.
$2000 or best offer.
Thanks, feel free to e-mail me with any questions!
