Beautiful deep red Fox Bassoon model 201, serial number 8476. Produced, I believe, in 1980, this bassoon is in fantastic condition for its vintage. It is a professional instrument with keywork to high E, only standard pinky rollers. Crutch bracket is installed, and I've had a balance hanged added. Maintained by Keith Bowen for the last couple of years.Additional work Keith performed for my instrument was replacing the wing joint tenon, and replacing the string wrapping on all tenons with cork. Felts have been removed and replaced with the new (teflon or kevlar) material that is supposed to be more quiet. I believe that he also replace all of the pads about three years ago.
Instrument has a very open, clear sound and very light resistance.
I am the second owner, and I finished my masters degree with this instrument, and was accepted two doctoral programs and one certificate program with this instrument.
Comes with two bocals, CVX 1 which is either unplated or with very worn plating and a great high note bocal, and a CVX 3, which has a more stable, slightly lower pitch. My teacher and I matched a Heckel CD 2 XL bocal to this instrument, which I don't mind selling with it, but my price is and additional $1000 to cover replacing it. This is a really good bocal. This bocal price is not negotiable, and added to whatever the mutually agreed upon price is.
Keith Bowen appraised this instrument two years ago at $12,000, and its relative worth will continue to rise in our given market. With some notice, I can provide the appraisal.
It comes with a Fox Standard case and leather case cover.
I could not seem to update this post with my pictures, but they are now available for email.
