Howdy,About 5 years ago I bought a Gold Star banjo from an estate sale in northern Minnesota. I knew (and know) very little about banjos, but it was heavy and had a good tone so I picked it up and went home pleased.
My guitar is jealous, however, and needs all the attention I can give it.
All marks point towards this being a G-12W banjo from Gold Star, made in the late 70's or early 80's. I can't be 100% sure because the first owner removed the serial number sticker, but I've put it up for discussion on a few sites and taken it to a few luthiers, and that's the general consensus.
The other consensus is that it's an excellent banjo. It was just set up by Hoffman Guitars in Minneapolis, has a newish case from Dusty Strings in Seattle, and the banjo itself is in excellent condition. There's a bit of staining from age on the head (you can see this in the photos), there are no chips or cracks anywhere, the neck is true and it plays fast and clear.
Please let me know if you'd like any further information.
