Description: Banjo - 1927 Gibson TB-3 Mastertone Conversion
There are no pictures available for this banjo
1927 Gibson Mastertone TB-3 converted to five string. Serial number 8662-8. All original with the following changes. The four string neck has been replaced with a pro quality five string neck. It is made of mahogany with an ebony fingerboard inlaid with a hearts and flowers pattern. It is dead straight and the frets are in great shape. The original archtop tone ring has been replaced with a flathead no hole conversion ring. No wood was removed to place the ring. I do not know the maker of the neck or the brand of tone ring. This appears to be an older conversion well done with quality materials. The resonator is structuraly sound but at some point the resonator was refinished a very dark walnut color. There is also some slight wrinkling of the veneer on the back of the resonator. I have the original neck which is included. I also have a recent apprasial from George Gruhn for $3000.00 to 3250.00. I am asking $2550.00. Banjo will ship in a Gibson 70's case. Serious buyers may email me for pics.
